From the year 2000 until 2006, the rate of growth in the use of imaging examinations outstripped increases in all other physician- directed services. 

Information technology improvements including PACS and voice recognition has helped to deal with this increase but there are still flaws in the system, leading to inefficiencies, that can be addressed:  

GE Healthcare contracted a study with ACR Image Metrix to help discover  

  • the main aspects of inefficient diagnostic workstations  
  • what could improve overall productivity and reduce fatigue  
  • the underlying gaps of current diagnostic workstations
